DIY HasslesÂ
At last Spring is here. But the sunshine highlights the wine spills on the carpet, tea spills on the wall, finger marks on the doors, the dirt on the windows… so it’s time to do some spring cleaning. Then you decide to sacrifice your weekend to clean, wash and scrub but realize that your doors, walls, furniture and fittings need more than just cleaning – they need to be updated, fixed or replaced. And then you remember the image in a magazine that you cut out some weeks ago – wouldn’t it be nice to have an interior like that? But then reality hits. Time. Money. Your partner. Mess. Decisions. Shopping ..
Persuading your man will need some nagging – nagging will need time, doing things will also need time – and time could be spent on better things than DIY. But the idea of shopping makes your eyes sparkle and overrule all the previous thoughts of hassles and potential problems. So you create a plan – a plan to make your partner want to redecorate and want to get new things. This includes a shopping trip to a DIY Store for a “small brush†or something (as long as it’s next to the power tools)… or to a furniture shop that is ideally located next to a gadget shop. So he is in. He wants to do it. He wants to buy it.
You allocate your next few weekends to do different parts of the job. Then some things get delayed, some things don’t turn up – both of you get stressed out and your DIY project ends up in a row and in a mess. You promise yourself that you’ll never do this again…next time you’ll get the builders in.
You know the scene. You’ve been there. But your house needs to be freshened up again and anyway it was fun doing the previous projects with your partner – at least you did something together. Six months later all the arguments turn into dinner-party stories. And the envious look on your friends’ face is just worth it…
