Office Feng Shui

Feng Shui is about arranging your stuff and furniture in a way that that helps you to avoid bad energy and to boost your wealth & well being. First you must find out your Kua number and establish your personal trigram – this depends on your birth year and on your gender. This will determine your best and worst directions and whether you’re an East or West person. Then you should work out your house or office’s trigram – this depends on the year the house was built and the direction it faces. You can find many websites and/ or books to help you with this – but it’s very important to establish before you start moving things around. When you’ve done the above you are ready to maximise chi..

The following points are the most important in creating a successful office:

1, Location of your office

You must locate your office in an auspicious area of the building. This is not necessarily just North or South-East, as many books suggest. It actually depends on which period the building was built.

2, Positioning your desk

When you work, you should face your three best directions. Positioning your desk is therefore very important. Make sure that:

  • your back doesn’t face a doorway
  • your back is supported by a wall
  • your desk is not on the same wall as the doorway
  • your back is not exposed to a window
  • your desk is not positioned between two openings (windows or doors)
  • your desk is not placed at an angle
  • your desk is not below overhead beams

Move your desk around until it’s in the right position, and it feels right. After all, Feng Shui is a combination of astrology, geometry, numerology… and common sense & intuition!

3, Office Decoration

Your office should be light and airy. Avoid clutter. Organise your stuff into folders. You should use light colours appropriate to the element representing the direction of the walls. Avoid sharp edges. There should be no corners intersecting your desk or chair and no sharp corners pointing at you. Don’t put mirrors and plants in your office – plants fight for energy, mirrors can traumatise your spirit. Use quartz crystals to cure problems – such as on sharp corners, wall edges, escaping energy etc…

4, Company logo

Your logo is symbolic – don’t imprison your name by encasing any part of it in a circle. Don’t put your logo on a door-mat… people tread on it! Simplicity is the key to a good logo and a successful business. The most important thing is to create a harmonious environment for working – whether you have a small or large business to run or you work from home.
