Christmas decoration theme for kids & parties
Of all the Christmas Decorating themes, this is the most fun and exciting. It’s based on fairytales and fables – either Christmas stories and myths such as Lapland, Santa & Friends, Fairies & Angels and the Nativity – or famous story characters such as Harry Potter or other favourites..
Suitability
It’s suitable for any home or workplace. It’s the ideal theme for families with kids, parties, offices and shops and for those who want to have lots of entertaining and laughter during the holiday season.
The Look
The look is all about celebrating the festivities. Other Christmas themes can easily be adapted to achieve this look. For example – the Lapland theme can be achieved by adding a few elements to the Winter Wonderland or the White Christmas theme; the Santa & Friends theme would work with the Traditional Christmas Decor theme; Nativity combines well with Starry nights or Elegant Christmas themes; the Fairies & Angels theme could be formed from the Elegant, White or Designer Chic decorating schemes. In fact any of the themes can be combined.
Get the look
With a little imagination you can transform your home into the magical world of Christmas, using your previous years’ decorating details. First decide on your theme – if you have kids, involve them in this decision and make-up a motto for your theme concept. Then work around this concept with ideas and details: utilize or alter previous decor items and objects to go with your theme. Try to make most of your Christmas decorations yourself (with your kids!) – decorate your windows, doors, mantelpieces and kid’s rooms around your chosen theme; make baubles, garments, stockings and runners. If you need to buy new baubles or ornamental pieces, buy those that can be altered the following year to suit another theme, or buy simple objects ( like cheap glass candle sticks, tealight holders, glassware plastic tableware etc and stencil them with removable paint). For parties, decorate plates and glasses with stickers or stencil them with frosted paint that can be removed later. Hang baubles and your theme-related details from the picture rails.
The Christmas tree
It’s best to have a real pine tree, but a plastic tree can also work. Decorate your tree richly with your baubles and ornaments – then add a fairy light suitable for your theme. Let the kids be creative! Add lot’s of edible baubles – wrapped chocolate, nuts & fruits. For your office tree, give everyone a bauble and ask them to decorate it as they want – or hang your theme related ornaments.
The Christmas – Party table
The Christmas table of this theme is more relaxed than in the other ones. Use inexpensive tableware – plastic, paper or glass – and stencil them with sparking glitter or paint them with your theme characters. For a central piece – just run a string of fairy lights across the table. For a party table add a long tray (or several bowls) filled with chocolate, nuts & dried fruits to nibble on.
Christmas Lighting
Lighting should be sparkling and vivid. Use fairy-lights that twinkle, rope lights that glow and flicker. Be careful with candles – neither partying nor kids are compatible with real fire! Instead use funky artificial candles!
Outside Decor
Decorate your outside around the same theme you’ve chosen for the interior. Be creative and let your imagination go wild – but try not to overdo it! Too many ideas together can look tacky and naff.
